You’re probably wondering how I got here…

What does one even say about themselves? I’ve been doing photography for as long as I can remember (I know, sounds cliché) My earliest memories involve watching my older sister use a very old Canon to try and capture photos of flowers at the Butchart Gardens in Victoria, BC. I had no clue that she would eventually retire her hobby as a 12 year old photographer and leave it to me to play around with.

I’m Canadian, and grew up in Fort McMurray, Alberta. My family for some reason decided living in BC with the beautiful coast was not worth it, and would rather make up for it by working in the oil sands. All jokes aside, it was the only way they knew to get out of the “trap” of Vancouver Island. My parents were not rich. Being the youngest of 4- I witnessed that a lot.

It wasn’t until 2012 that I really truly decided to pursue photography. I found myself wanting to shoot portraits and spent time before and after classes (even during lunch) shooting photos of classmates. I had no clue what I was doing but it was fun.Fast forward to graduation and I had zero idea of what I would do for a career. I ended up moving back to British Columbia and enrolling in a program for photography. However, things didn’t work out the way I wanted to and the school went bankrupt before I ever got there. Stuck in a lease, I decided I would pursue makeup since it felt like a natural addition to photography.

After doing a course in makeup I decided I still had no idea what i was doing and honestly, getting work as a makeup artist on Vancouver Island (known as retirement central) was pretty hard. I ended up moving back to Fort McMurray where I worked at a hair salon for a few years until I figured out what it was I wanted to do with my life.

I explored for a little longer with photoshoots and even got my whole work group involved in a “group” photoshoot where we had models and a clothing store take part. At this point I had been having fun exploring photography and what I could do with portraits. After discovering the world of PR I decided I would go to university for Communications.

For some reason, at the time- this seemed like the right decision. Finding a career that feels stable (hi, biweekly pay-checks) and provided an outlet for creativity seemed like the PERFECT fit. Little did I know that whole plan would go out the window.

Four years of University later and playing around with my style and my dreams- I’ve found my niche and have mastered it. As a creative person, the learning and growing will never end but the beauty of this is being able to explore.

My goals have certainly changed over the years and my main focus now is creating on-brand commercial work for small and large clients alike. There is something so mesmerizing about a beautiful campaign- for as long as I can remember I’ve been obsessed with the editorials done by Jamie Nelson and other well-known photographers.
