My Process

INQUIRY AND FORMATION

There is nothing worse than hiring someone you don’t vibe with. This initial process will allow me to get to know YOU, your brand and your marketing goals. Because what’s the point of shooting a beautiful story if we aren't meeting those goals? Did you know that only 38% of marketers are able to consistently produce engaging visual content? This initial inquiry and formation component will ensure that you and I are on the same page with branding and what goals you want to achieve.

What does this initial process look like? I get an e-mail or notification about a new inquiry. After reviewing the inquiry, I set up a time where we can both chat about what project you are looking to hire for and what end goals you want to achieve with this project. Once we have a fully formed idea of what to expect, then comes the conceptualization and directing of the project. In this initial process we will discuss budget, deliverables, timelines and more specifically; what YOU want to see.

CONCEPT AND DIRECT

This part of the process is where I create a cohesive moodboard reflective of our goal for the day of the shoot. This can mean many things, but often it looks like a thoughtfully put together moodboard with the colour scheme, mood, poses, direction and even set design of the shoot. Think of this part as the story behind the product. For example, you might be selling an air-dry hair foam but if your target audience is working moms or surfers- the story might look a little different to each person. This why it’s important to understand your brand and its’ target audience.

This is the organizational wizards’ dream. Getting clear and concise about what you want to get out of your session is invaluable. It can make or break whether or not you are satisfied with the session as a whole. Having an idea in mind of what you will need to bring to set, what props or models you will be using and creating a desired shot list is part of this process.

CREATE AND SHOOT

We have formed the shoot around your product and the campaign. Now it’s the fun part! We get messy, and shoot all the content. I always highly recommend having ideas in place for specific shots you would like to have on your website or as the “hero” image. What will be the poster child for this product? Is it a product shot or a shot with a human element? Keeping those in mind during the shoot is important and is often at the top of my mind during the shoot.

POST PERFECTION

This is the final portion. It is putting all the puzzle pieces together and telling a story. After the shoot, we will sit down together and review the images. What shots are the “HERO” shots and what shots will be used to tell the story on social media? What elements do you want to see retouched and what graphic design choices will we use to reflect the story?

After final selections are made, I get to work. Retouching and polishing the images into a beautiful story to be shared by your brand.
